out checking all the activity , one sub had sailors all over it. Set reefed main and
yankee as we motored. Wind picked up and we had a great sail across St Andrew Sound
at one point rail down, then across St Simons Sound to Golden Isle Marina. Picked up
1 hr free courtesy car headed for Winn Dixie, then to outer beach . Found a public access
and ran down to the brown waves. Returned to marina used pool met with "Integrity's" crew

PORT OF ARRIVAL---------Buckhead Creek ,Off Ossabaw Island, Mile 608
TIME OF ARRIVAL---------4:30 P.M.
WEATHER CONDITIONS----Sunny ,Warm ,Puffy clouds, Wind 9 to 15 NW to SE

EVENTS-----------------Still cruising with "Integrity" Put up all the sails , we
really scooted with the current with us half the time. 9.3 Knots over the ground on
the sounds. "Integrity" led today , it was a beautiful day ,June read , napped , and
enjoyed the sail (motor sail). Tom set and reset and reset sails as we twisted and
turned the rivers and inlets. A barge overtook us, Not a lot of traffic on the Waterway
but lots of extensive marsh land and blue horseflies to go with it. They occasionally
bite, mostly they sit on the underside of the bimini looking. I think they are drawn by
the boat exhaust. Put down anchor at Buckhead River off the ICW-deep wide very
comfortable another boat joined us. Motored in the dinghy to chat with neighbors.

TIME OF DEPARTURE----7:15 AM
PORT OF ARRIVAL---------Beaufort SC. Mile 536
TIME OF ARRIVAL---------5:00 PM
WEATHER CONDITIONS----Partly cloudy , breezy , sunny , Warm , Wind 10 Knots SW

EVENTS-----------------Following the "Integrity". A little more to look at -treed islands,
towns, nice homes, marinas with big boats, fields with some pigs, dolphins and horseflies.
Tom put up all sails yankee, main, and missen doing 8 Knots when everything is right.
When we reached the Savannah river, we tought we would go to Savannah up the river, after
doing only 2 Knots against the current and calculating it would take 5 hours we changed
our mind and headed for Beaufort. the river was a mess -terribly polluted that helped.
Had a great sail up Calibogue Sound ,past Hilton Head Island with all the beautiful homes,
across Port Royal Sound -with rollers and coasters- and up the Beaufort River. Found
"Integrity" there they arrived just before us. Fulled up and found a slip then headed out
to do the town. Ate out at "The Bank" ,found some home made icecream at "The Pluma" and
did a few shops. Arranged to take the town walking tour with casettes in the morning.

PORT OF ARRIVAL---------South Edisto River Mile 509
TIME OF ARRIVAL---------7:00 P.M. Just before Sunset
WEATHER CONDITIONS----Calm , hot , sunny, wind came up around 2:30 10 knots SE

EVENTS-----------------had a lovely time on the walking tour of Beaufort (Bewfort)
listening to the tapes. Lots of beautiful homes, magnolia trees , old live oaks with
moss and history. June went shopping while Tom did computer catch up. Just made the
bridge at noon, a hasty good-by to "Intregity" , they plan to stay another day or so.
Set sails and had an easy motorsail down the Coosaw River into St Helens Sound.
As we crossed the Sound the calm changed to a nice strong SE Breeze . Just in time
to help us on to a shoaling at the mouth of the ICW Ashepoo Coosaw Cutoff channel. The
distraction of dolphins didn't help. Several small motor boats tried to help, one
took our anchor onto the center of the channel and we tried to winch off. I put the
dinghy down and did soundings and found we were right on the edge of the channel. We
could wait two hours through low tide and flot off or try to get off. A small power
boat came by drove around us making big waves as June powered Silver Linning and I
winched the anchor, floating us off into the middle of the channel. Off just in time
to see a barge coming down the narrow channel we were anchored in. We got the anchor
in just in time and motored away into the sound. We made two more attempts to get into
the cutoff and found it hard to find enough water to make it. So we anchored out in
the sound for the tides help until another sailboat came by going the other way
with 5-1/2 ft draugh and watched his path. Tried again and made it his way. We
then motored on to an easy anchoring spot that was deep and quiet for a needed rest.
A birthday June will not forget.

PORT OF DEPARTURE----South Edisto River
TIME OF DEPARTURE----7:00 AM
PORT OF ARRIVAL---------Five Fathom Inlet, McClellanville ,Mile 430
TIME OF ARRIVAL---------5:30 P.M.
WEATHER CONDITIONS----Sunny , hot breezy 10 -15 Knot SW wind turn slightly overcast.

EVENTS-----------------Up early and off to Charleston. Set just the main for speed
when I can use it other wise it's motoring with twist and turns. It's Zig zag
then zag zig, up Edisto River into Watts Cut down North Creek and Dawko River up
Wadmalow River down Stono River to Elliot Cut into Charleston Harbor. Following each
marker and charts making sure we are where we should be is very time consuming and
stressful having never been here. June the navagator doesn't have much time to view
the scenery that is very interesting. Some large estates along the way and some wild
life, human and other types of birds are eye catching. I just tryed to staying on the
right side of the markers, keep the mainsail trimed, and dodge the boat traffic. As
we reached Charleston Bay I set the yankee (large fore jib) and the main. And as we
rounded the channel marker heading down the bay following a boat about our size and
sail area, the helmsman gives that look and the race was on across the bay. Great
sail. To busy to see much but lots of activity in the sound. Once into the ICW across
the bay things eased up in the long straight channel behind the Isle of Palm and the
coast and we could take in the sights. I did win the race solidly. We turned off
into an inlet just south of McKlenanville a good anckorage another sailboat there,
our FOLLOWER pulled in also. An evening of computer , cooking ,TV -Good reception
and telephone calling , June's birthday calls.

TIME OF DEPARTURE----7:30 AM
PORT OF ARRIVAL---------Georgetown Harbor Front Marina Mile 402
TIME OF ARRIVAL---------12:00 noon
WEATHER CONDITIONS---- A little shower AM, partly cloudy, sunny and warm,Wind 5-15 NW to SW late

EVENTS-----------------Had trouble with the Tackometer and Motor generator, I replaced
the engine belt, everything works great . A morning run to Georgetown. Set sails and had
a great run up Winyah Bay the tide with us. A huge steel ship followed us . It was met by
two tugs and we all reached Georgetown at the same time. We were able to get into the harbor
channel before they reached us. After fulling up, securing a slip and lunch, Tom went Engine
belt and food shopping with the marina taxi guy ,while June did the shops and found some
neat stuff. Mid afternoon we took the little bus ? (Trailer on back of jeep )historic tour
to see the Local houses and churches and stuff. Great tour and great little town BUT --The
whole town was hung over by the Steel Mill (making coiled wire) and the International Paper
Co.'s huge polluting towers and loud steam coolers shadowing the waterfront walkway where
a lot shops and restaurants are. They had historic reading markers about their industries
along the beautiful bay walkway .The combination of both heavy industy and small town tourist
environment so close was very contradicting for June. She loved the town but not the Factories.

PORT OF ARRIVAL---------Barefoot Landing , North Myrtle Beach, Mile 354
TIME OF ARRIVAL---------3:30 P.M.
WEATHER CONDITIONS----Sunny, warm , partly cloudy, then rain threatening light wind in face 5K N to E

EVENTS-----------------Going north along the Waccamaw River is very picturesque with moss
covered trees and low banks. Some broken down branches have turtle families sunning and the
with long and straight stretches with homes and condo communities along the way. As we travel
north the sides become higher. Along the way we over took the sailboat "Colleen" and got
into a conversation with them. A young couple heading back to Maryland from the Bahamas.
They were traveling with another faster boat "Night Swimming " that we also got in
conversation with. As we passed she had the helm while he was reading. We all were able to
find a spot on the face dock at Barefoot Landing being early in the afternoon. We all took
off shopping, lots of outlets, stores, and restaurants. June had her picture taken with the
Royal White Tigers that were on display. A fund raiseing scheem to maintain the tigers.
Instead of a live show at the theater we took a long walk to the Beach , had to go through
a big Beach Condo to reach the beach .The Sea was rough. We finished the evening shopping
and walking the ways at the complex June picked up a rug and come candles.
